Operation of the Federal Legal Information Through Electronics (FLITE) and Defense Emergency Authorities Retrieval and Approval System (DEARAS)
Description:
As the DoD Executive Agent, the Secretary of the Air Force is responsible for Operation of the Federal Legal Information Through Electronics (FLITE) and Defense Emergency Authorities Retrieval and Analysis System (DEARAS). The Air Force Legal Operations Agency, Legal Information Services Directorate (AFLOA/JAS), provides computer-assisted legal research capabilities and facilitates web site hosting to Department of Defense components. FLITE is a full-text, computer-assisted legal research portal, knowledge management (KM) and learning management system with on-line research capability operated by the Air Force as the DoD EA for the DoD. Through a commercial contract, the system provides the full text of Federal legal authorities including statutes, regulations, treaties, court decisions, and administrative decisions to Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps and DoD legal professionals on a reimbursable basis. FLITE KM a knowledge management portal hosts legal research and subject matter mastery tools for legal topics including Administrative, Fiscal, Acquisition Contracts, Labor, Personnel, Military Justice, Discipline, International, Operations, Legal Assistance, Claims, and Environment. Research services on request are performed by attorneys and paralegal staff. AFLOA/JAS also hosts a learning management system for professional development and continuing legal education that includes legal distance education for all DoD legal personnel. FLITE also provides Public website hosting services for military boards and court, as well as a legal assistance online service for military members, dependents and retirees.
