Medical Materiel (Class VIII Supply)

As the DoD Executive Agent, the Director, Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) is responsible for acting as the single point of contact to establish the strategic and operational relationships, capabilities, and the system integration necessary for effective and efficient Class VIII supply chain support for the Department within the DoD enterprise architecture. Working with the Combatant Commands through the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and directly with the Military Services, the DoD Executive Agent for Medical Materiel plans the provision and distribution of Class VIII sustaining materiel, and establishes performance standards documented in performance-based agreements as necessary to achieve in-theater and homeland support. The Executive Agent is also responsible for programming, obtaining, and providing necessary resources to support Class VIII surge and sustainment programs and, in doing so, consolidating funding and acquisition programs to reduce duplication and redundancy. Additionally, the DoD Executive Agent for Medical Materiel delineates roles, responsibilities, and authorities among the organizations and elements that comprise the supply chain.
